October is special in Davis County, Utah. Not only are our trails illuminated with fall colors, but only here can you find Utah’s only Amusement Park – Lagoon – that transforms into Frightmares for Halloween. For slower pace, find quaint farms with pumpkin patches, corn mazes or see the night light up with stars on Antelope Island. Where: Eccles Wildlife Education Center at 1700 W Glovers Ln, Farmington, Utah 84025
What: Join us for free pumpkin painting between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. each Saturday in October! Bring your own pumpkin — or pick one up from the Pack Farms Pumpkin Patch (just across the street from us on Glovers Lane) — and we will provide the painting supplies and a staff member or volunteer to help. What: CenterPoint Legacy Theatre presents, Shaping the Arts Exhibition, part of the Utah Arts Museums’ Traveling Exhibition Program. Original artworks by eleven Utah artists who also teach at high schools will be displayed at the CenterPoint Legacy Theatre. Shaping the Arts is a group exhibit of Utah artists who play a significant role in arts education at the High School level. All young artists start somewhere and often this begins with focused attention and encouragement from teachers.

Halloween Spooky Hike on Lagoon Trail
with Farmington Trails Committee

What: Bring the kiddos and join the Farmington Trails Committee for a Halloween Spooky Hike along a section of the Lagoon Trail. We will meet at the cul-de-sac on 300 N just west of Main Street. Bring your flashlights, dress up, and enjoy trick-or-treats along the trail. More info, click here.
Forever Plaid Opens at OPPA

What: Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols – The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo’s and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company, they became “Forever Plaid”. On the way to their first big gig, the “Plaids” are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment when their careers and lives end that the story of Forever Plaid begins…

Frary Homestead Sunset Hike/Ghost Hunt
When: Tuesday, Oct. 30, 6:45pm
Where: Frary Peak Trailhead, Antelope Island State Park
What: In Sept. of 1897, Antelope Island resident Alice Frary passed away as her husband fought for his own life to bring her medicine from the mainland. Meet at the Frary Homestead trailhead and take a half-mile guided hike to the Frary homestead as the sun sets. Then spend some time at the homestead site to see if Mrs. Frary is still there. Hike will leave the parking lot at 6:45 pm. This program is limited to 15 participants – register by email to caldrich@utah.gov, or by phone (call or text) at 801-927-0545.
Layton Hills Mall Trick-or-Treating
When: Wednesday, Oct. 31st, 5pm
Where: Layton Hills Mall

Centerville Police Dept. Night Out Against Crime
When: Wednesday, Oct. 31st, 6pm to 8:30pm
Where: The Community Park, 400 W. 1350 N., Centerville, Utah
What: This ghoulish event will include: Fire Truck, Ambulance, Command Vehicle, Helicopter, Police K-9, SWAT, Centerville’s new DARE car, BAT-mobile, DUI Risk Demo, and the KC – remote-controlled Crime Fighting Dog. Pumpkin Stroll – Kaysville
When: Thursday, Oct. 11, 8:30-11pm
Where: Main Street, Kaysville, Utah
What: On top of the normal Stroll Kaysville – an art stroll filling main street with artisan vendors – you’re welcome to bring a carved pumpkin for prizes.
Jr Ranger program: Who Lives on Antelope Island?
When: Saturday, Oct. 13, starts at 10am
Where: Visitor’s Center, Antelope Island State Park
What: Join the park naturalist at 10:00 am in the visitor center amphitheater to learn about the critters that live on Antelope Island and what makes the island a good home for them. There will be furs and antlers to touch for a hands on experience. This program is geared for ages 8-12 but all ages are welcome. Children under the age of 12 will earn a Antelope Island Jr Ranger badge for attending.
Davis Arts Council’s Active Pages: Explorers in Literature (FREE)
When: Saturday, Oct. 13, 6-8pm
Where: Layton Commons Park, Layton, Utah
What: The first Active Pages event will feature the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Taking place in Layton Commons Park on October 13, 2018 from 6-8PM, walk from station to station to hear the story of Ichabod Crane and his ill-fated attempt to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel, all the while dealing with the ghosts of Sleepy Hollow.
This program is completely free and open to kids of all ages. Kids 12 and under will leave with a free book provided by Gibbs Smith and Shadow Mountain Publishing.

Public Star Party
When: October 13
Where: White Rock Bay (West side of island), Antelope Island State Park
What: Join Ogden Astronomical Society for a public star party beginning at 5:00 pm in White Rock Bay. Solar viewing will take place from 5:00 pm to sunset. Deep space viewing will begin at dark. Experience the wonder of star clusters, galaxies, nebulae and more. Feel free to bring camp chairs and snacks to enjoy the evening with us. If you bring a flashlight, please make sure it has a red filter on it. No white lights. When entering the parking area, please switch your car headlights to parking lights only. What: This evening tour of Fielding Garr Ranch is for visitors of all ages! Meet at the ranch at 6:00 pm, as it gets dark, and imagine yourself there after a long day’s work. This is a family-friendly program without the ghost stories and investigations taking place at other evening ranch programs this month. Burger Stop’s Truck or Treat (FREE)

Annual Bison Roundup

When: Saturday, October 27, 2018
Where: Antelope Island State Park
What: Come witness a true Western experience as hundreds of horseback riders round up nearly 700 bison from around the Island and move them north into the holding corrals. Riders begin at 9am from Fielding Garr Ranch and move the herd north. Visitors can watch this event from the east side road, as well as witnessing the final push into the corrals from a viewing area at White Rock Bay. In the viewing area at White Rock Bay there will be food vendors, music, educational booths, and some games available to play. Bring a camp chair or blanket for seating. Learn more on this blog post.
Pumpkin Palooza at Legacy Events Center
